Altcoins are cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. Altcoins have the basic features of Bitcoin, but use a different consensus mechanism to generate blocks or verify transactions. Or they stand out with smart contracts or lower transaction commissions.

The chart above shows the ratio of each of the ten largest crypto assets within the total market capitalization of all assets. Since BTC is the first asset, it is the largest in terms of market capitalization, and so market dominance is a figure that many people follow. We define the assets tracked in this chart as crypto assets as they also include tokens and stablecoins. Types of altcoins
Different functions and consensus mechanisms can form an altcoin. Due to these differences, altcoins can belong to more than one category. Some of the key categories include:
Mining-based altcoins, as the name suggests, are mined by mining and using a Proof of Work (PoW), a method by which systems generate new coins by completing “blocks” of verified transactions added to the blockchain. Examples of mining-based altcoins are Litecoin, Monero, and Zcash.
Stablecoins closely monitor the value of fiat currencies such as the U.S. dollar or euro. They allow users to transfer value cheaply and quickly around the world while maintaining price stability. BUSD is an example of a stablecoin indexed to the US dollar.
Securities tokens are digital assets that are similar to securities traded on the stock exchange and mined on the blockchain. Some offer net worth in the form of property, dividends to those who hold them, or even bonds. Securities tokens are usually made available through a Securities Token Offering (STO) or Initial Exchange Offering (IEO).
Service tokens make up the majority of tokens issued under ICOs. These are primarily used by companies to increase interest in their products and to create use cases and value through the services provided in blockchain ecosystems. Unlike securities tokens and stocks, they do not provide any ownership rights over a company’s share. Crypto Coins Released First
