There are several ways to buy bitcoin in the Netherlands (or Belgium). The best way is through a broker or exchange (also called trading platform).

Here you can find a description of how buying bitcoin works on Bitvavo, the Bitcoin Exchange with the lowest fees in the Netherlands. In several steps it is explained how this process works so that you can easily follow it.
The first step is to create an account. You register with an email address and personal details. After you have filled in this information and clicked on register, you will receive an e-mail with an activation e-mail to confirm.
After activating your account you can log in and you have to answer some additional questions, these are the mandatory questions due to the financial laws and regulations. After creating an account, the next step is to link the bank account. A bank account must be verified, which can only be done by transferring a small payment. This step looks like this.
What do you have to take into account?
– An account must be in your own name, you can only transfer money from a bank account that is under your name. When you transfer from another account, the account cannot be verified and you cannot make transactions, so pay close attention to this.
– A business account may not be used, if you want to open a business account, you must fill in another form.
– You may not use a Transferwise account, this account does not allow Bitvavo. All other European banks can be used, the easiest thing is to use an IBAN account, which all Dutch banks have. Depositing credit
After you have verified the account, you can choose which payment amount and payment method you want to use to deposit more. To do this, click on the ‘Deposit Credit’ button and choose the amount you want to add to your account.
After the payment has been made, you will quickly see the credit in your wallet. With iDeal this is almost always instant, when you choose to transfer this can take 1-2 (work) days. That is why depositing with iDeal is the most fast, reliable and convenient.

After the credit has been deposited into the account, you can get started to buy your first bitcoin. How does this work exactly? If you scroll down a little bit you will see a list of cryptocurrencies and you will see ‘Currency’ above it, there you enter bitcoin. Then you get the result of bitcoin at the top, after which you click on it. It is important that you click on Bitcoin and not on Bitcoin Cash or Bitcoin SV as these are two other crypto currencies.
After you have clicked on bitcoin, you will come to the screen where you can buy bitcoins. You have two options. You can enter the amount you want to invest or you can enter the number of bitcoin you buy and that is automatically converted what this amount is in euros. You can choose how much bitcoin you want to buy, you can buy 0.005 for example.
After you have chosen the amount you want to invest, it is good to check this carefully, because it cannot be reversed. After you’re sure of your purchase, click “Buy” and then click confirm.
