Most cryptocurrency wallets are browser extensions. These extensions have inherent security risks and are much more susceptible to account spoofing and asset theft. Extensions also require an additional processor to run, which creates performance issues on your device.
The Brave wallet, on the other hand, is native to the browser. With the Brave wallet, there is much less risk of account spoofing, phishing, and other scams. It requires less processor to run, and overall is much more powerful and reliable. The Brave wallet allows you to connect other self-custody or hardware wallets and other web3 DApps, view live market data, and manage your portfolio in one place.
Yes, you need the Brave Privacy Browser to use the Brave wallet. Download now.
Yes, the Brave wallet is completely free. However, transactions (such as shipments or exchanges) will require gas fees, and exchanges may also include additional transaction fees. These fees will be similar or identical to those of other cryptocurrency wallets.
To start using the Brave wallet on computer, open the Brave browser and click on the icon in the toolbar. To start using Brave on mobile, open the browser menu and then tap the icon.
If you don’t see the wallet icon, first update to the latest version of Brave.
The Brave wallet supports all EVM and L2 compatible channels.
Yes. Unlike other wallets, the Brave wallet is designed with an open MPL license. This means that it is open to others to use, fork and contribute to it.
The Brave wallet is currently available on desktop and mobile, with the same operating requirements as the Brave browser.
Note that initial versions of the mobile wallet may not include support for DApps or custom (EVM-enabled) networks. However, we will update the mobile wallet as we go along and should have parity soon, so check back regularly.
Also note that biometrics (fingerprint) to open the Brave wallet is supported on iOS, as well as Android P and higher.
At this time, syncing between devices is not available for the Brave wallet. However, we hope to make the sync feature available soon. Check back to learn more.
Brave rewards are linked to Brave private ads. Brave browser users who sign up for Brave Rewards will see direct ads that preserve their privacy in certain places as they browse. By viewing these ads, users can earn a crypto-token called Basic Attention Token (BAT).
The Brave wallet is a tool that allows you to buy, store, send and exchange almost all crypto-assets and NFTs, connect other wallets and web3 DApps, and globally manage your entire cryptocurrency wallet. You can store the BAT you have earned through Brave rewards in the Brave wallet, but otherwise the two features are not connected.
The old Brave cryptocurrency wallet was a fork of MetaMask. The new Brave wallet is built from scratch by the Brave engineering team and natively integrated with the Brave browser.
The Brave wallet is not available as a browser extension. Brave does not intend to create a wallet extension, so if you come across one, you should consider it fraudulent and not download or install it.
The Brave mobile wallet is presented in “beta” version to indicate that it is not yet optimal. When we reach full parity with the computer version of the Brave wallet, we will remove the mention “beta”. In the meantime, we keep it to help users understand that the product is not finished, and to hold us accountable for achieving this parity. We hope to be able to remove the “beta” mention from the Brave mobile wallet in the coming months.
Note that the Brave wallet for computer does not have this “beta” mention. However, we will also continue to improve the computer version.
